Cutting Your Own Child's Hair
A lot of articles start with the phrase, "In these tough economic times," but, "In these tough economic times", one way that you could save money is by cutting your own child's hair. When I first started having kids my husband was in college. We had 2 kids by graduation. I knew that cutting my own kids hair was something that I could learn to do and save over the years. The first time I cut my year old little boy's hair, I felt terrible every time I looked at him for the first 3 days. After the first few days it started to grow out, the cuts softened, and did not look so bad. I actually got pretty good at it. I first started out using only a pair of scissors and after about 10 years finally broke down and bought a razor. Having 4 boys and 4 girls, over the years I can't even imagine how much money I saved. My oldest boy was 16 before he ever had his hair cut professionally. He always told me that the worst phase I could udder while cutting his hair was "oops", so I tried not to say it. Another plus was that it also saved me a lot of time by not having to take them to the barbershop and waiting on the barber. I did it when I wanted to which usually ended up being on Saturday or Sunday nights. There are a number of videos on YouTube that will teach you how to do a basic cut. Just make sure the first few times you cut your own child's hair, it's not before a big event like a family reunion or a wedding. One hint to help you will be to let him watch cartoons while you cut give him something he loves to eat. Popsicles don't work well as the hair will stick to it. It needs to be something hard that you can brush the hair off if need be.
